Inheritance is a short film about a young woman, Alice, who travels back to her roots after her mother passed away. The story carries a deep sense of grief, yet Alice’s home still radiates the warmth and safety of her family’s memories.
In the color grading process, we chose to explore glows, green and yellow tones, with strong and diffused highlights with halation. The film’s Look was designed to express Alice’s inner conflict, the affection she feels on the bright memories of her home and the need to move forward despite the painful traces of loss.
As a Colorist, working with film stock at the Portuguese Cinematheque Archive gave me a solid foundation and strong visual references that I now bring into my digital projects when creating new film Look from scratch. Color is not only about making a perfect look, it’s about telling a story and bringing light to its narrative and emotional core.
I present a showreel of the before-and-after color grading work from the short film Inheritance, directed by Mischa Andreski (2025).
